When planning the process of repainting an exterior surface, you’re probably looking into how best to prepare the surface for a new coat of paint. Adding a primer coat and wall putty are of course steps to take in order to bring out the final selected coat better, but in order to ensure that it’s as good underneath the coats as it is on the surface, you need to make sure that the walls are cleaned prior to painting.
Washing the exterior surfaces you’re looking to get repainted is obviously effective in removing flaking paint or old paint that’s curling up. However it is also necessary to remove any dirt, moss or grime that has been gathering on it since the old layer of paint went up. This will in turn leave the surface clean and ready for you to now apply a primer onto it.
Overtime due to direct sunlight as well as rainfall and damp conditions (of which Ireland is quite familiar with) the paint will become moldy and begin to chalk. With a surface such as this, it would be difficult to apply a new layer of paint on it and for it to stick. Mold and mildew will just grow and eat through the new coat of paint you put down very quickly.
While you can go and get a power washer to do the job yourself, cation is advised. Cleaning a surface for it to be ready for repainting is a bit more tricky and there are techniques that a professional power washing service provider will have.
